The organizational meeting of the School Board of
Independent School District #640 was held on Monday, January 28, 2008, at 7:00
p.m. in the Board Room of the Wabasso Public School.
Temporary Chairperson Superintendent Ted Suss called the
meeting to order with all members present except Dan Dahl. Also present were visitors Raymond Rivera,
Greg Guetter, Amy Iverson, and Amy Rohlik.
Margaret Wambeke made and Caroline Netzke seconded a motion to adopt the organizational agenda as amended. Motion carried unanimously.
Leon
Plaetz then took over duties as chairperson.
Motion
made by Orlean Stage and seconded by Margaret Wambeke that the ISD 640 Board of
Education establish a rate of $1.15 per mile for use of a school district
school bus, $.56 per mile for use of a school district van, and the current IRS
rate per mile for use of a school district car.
Motion carried unanimously.
The ISD 640 Board Of Education will
set dates for Meet and Confer with Wabasso Education Association members on an
as needed basis.
Superintendent Ted Suss was directed
to review the current Board Committee Representatives and begin filling these
positions for the current year as follows:
three persons each on the Employee/Student Relations Committee,
Facilities Committee, Policy Committee, Finance Committee, and Negotiations Committee;
and one person each on the Early Childhood Family Education, Community
Education, Minnesota State High School League, Legislative Liaison, and Redwood
County Collaborative representative positions.

Leon Plaetz adjourned the organizational meeting at 7:17 p.m. and called the
regular meeting to order at that time.
The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent
School District #640 was held on Monday, January 28, 2008, at 7:19 p.m. in the
Board Room of the Wabasso Public School.

Margaret Wambeke moved and Barb
Hoffman seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the Board meeting on
December 17, 2007. Motion carried
unanimously.
Caroline Netzke made and Nick Welu
seconded a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Orlean Stage and seconded by Margaret Wambeke to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
No items were presented during the
open forum portion of the meeting.
Site Council member
Amy Iverson was present to give the Site Council Report to the Board. She reported on the Site Council’s most
recent activities and discussions.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and
seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve a program
of Spanish language instruction in the elementary school. Motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent Suss presented
information to the ISD 640 Board of Education regarding the Kindergarten
enrollment numbers for fall 2008 and the possibility of having two sections of
Kindergarten for the 2008-2009 school year.
The consensus of the Board is to proceed with the plan as presented.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and
seconded by Margaret Wambeke to approve the following Resolution:
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE
MODIFICATION OF JOBZ SUBZONE NUMBER12, CITY OF WABASSO, SOUTHWEST REGIONAL JOBZ
WHEREAS, the purpose of the JOBZ Sub-Zone program is to
revitalize economically distressed areas to attract jobs and people; and
WHEREAS, CEEC wishes to expand their maintenance facility
and add additional jobs; and

Motion carried
unanimously.
