The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District #640 was held on Monday, July 23 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Wabasso Public School.
Chairperson Leon Plaetz called the meeting to order with all members present. Also present were Superintendent Ted Suss and visitors Gary Thomas and Raymond Rivera.
Orlean Stage made and Margaret Wambeke seconded a motion to adopt the agenda as amended. Motion carried unanimously.
Barb Hoffman moved and Nick Welu seconded the motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board meeting on June 25, 2007. Motion carried unanimously.
Caroline Netzke made and Dan Dahl seconded a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Dan Dahl and seconded by Margaret Wambeke to pay the bills as presented. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Orlean Stage and seconded by Caroline Netzke that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve the Bus Maintenance bid submitted by Palmer Bus Service in the amount of $28.00 per hour plus parts for the 2007-2008 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Margaret Wambeke and seconded by Dan Dahl that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve Meadowland Farmers Co-op and Farmers Co-op Oil of Echo as vendors for #2 Diesel Heating Fuel for the 2007-2008 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Orlean Stage that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve LP Gas bid from Farmers Co-op Oil of Echo at $1.45/gallon for the 2007-2008 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Margaret Wambeke and seconded by Nick Welu that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve the Unleaded Gasoline at pump and Diesel Fuel at pump bid submitted by Meadowland Farmers Co-op in the amount of $.02 less than the posted pump price for the 2007-2008 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Dan Dahl and seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve the Bread Products bid submitted by Salfer’s Food Center in the amounts as follows: 1.5 lb. loaf, white $1.05 each; 1.5 lb. loaf, wheat $1.30 each; Buns 4” large $2.90/30 ct. pkg.; Buns Small $1.25/12 ct. pkg.; Buns, 6” hot dog $1.55/16 ct. pkg for the 2007-2008 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Margaret Wambeke that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve the Dairy products bid submitted by Salfer’s Food Center for the 2007-2008 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Nick Welu and seconded by Caroline Netzke that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve publication of a public notice requesting quotes for transportation services as required by law. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Dan Dahl and seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education declare school buses numbered 3, 5, 6, and 8 as surplus and authorize the Superintendent of Schools to sell these buses by sealed bid. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Margaret Wambeke and seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve to designate or appoint Ted L. Suss, Superintendent of Schools, to the following positions: Hazardous substances designee, Staff member authorized to make investments of district funds, Asbestos plan designated person, Options Information Officer & Open Enrollment, Title IX Officer, Human Rights Officer, Vocational Director, Chapter One Director, Block Grant Director, Title II Director, Transportation Safety Director, Chair of District Safety Committee. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Orlean Stage that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve the following calendar for adoption of the 2008 Levy and required public hearings:
September 24, 2007 Certification of proposed levy
November 29, 2007 Truth in Taxation Public Hearing
December 10, 2007 Truth in Taxation Continuation Hearing, (only if necessary)
December 17, 2007 Certification and Adoption of Final Levy
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Orlean Stage and seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve 2007-2008 membership in the Minnesota School Boards Association and payment of dues in the amount of $2,621.00. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion to Amend Agenda by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Margaret Wambeke to include item #10.4 Change dates for November and December School Board Meetings. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve a change in the Board of Education meeting calendar moving the November meeting to November 29, 2007 and moving the December meeting to December 17, 2007. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Margaret Wambeke and seconded by Dan Dahl that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve a substitute teacher rate of pay at $90 per full day. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Margaret Wambeke and seconded by Nick Welu that the ISD 640 Board of Education hire Heidi Myers as a full time Spanish Teacher placing her at the BA, step-three rate of pay. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Barb Hoffman that the ISD 640 Board of Education hire Becky Brand as a full time Math Teacher placing her at the BA step two rate of pay. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Barb Hoffman and seconded by Dan Dahl that the ISD 640 Board of Education hire Tami Marten to serve as “C” squad volleyball coach for the 2007 season. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Orlean Stage and seconded by Margaret Wambeke that the ISD 640 Board of Education hire Chad Hertling to serve as a regular bus route driver. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Caroline Netzke and seconded by Nick Welu that the ISD 640 Board of Education hire Gerald Fennern, Dorothy Marquardt, Rose Van Hecke to serve as census takers for the school district. The pay for census taker positions is $8.25 per hour plus mileage at state reimbursable rate. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion made by Nick Welu and seconded by Dan Dahl that the ISD 640 Board of Education approve the resignation of Catherine Macken as Dance Team Coach effective immediately. Motion carried unanimously.
Chairperson Leon Plaetz adjourned the meeting at 8:02 p.m.
