Youth Offerings

Game Day

Join us for some snacks and some fun competition.  We will meet you at the table to play KAZNIK or MAKE N BREAK to name a few.  Bring your strategic minds to the table and let's have some fun! Intended for Grades 4-6

Winter Archery

Tom Bitker and John Haberman are back and are ready for another exciting winter.  Participants 8 years and older, will learn how to properly maintain your bow and arrows, proper safety procedures, correct form and posture.  There will be opportunities to take part in different tournaments of skill, distance and stamina.  Parents are encouraged to take part with their child.  Students must remain in the gym at all times.

Rocking Lockers

Dress up your locker to fit your stylin' attitude.  Participants will have the chance to make "stack'em photo frames" Locker Signs, Locker Fringes, and note pad clips.  Grades 4-6

Cars, Cars, Cars

If you would like to paint your own car, while watching the movie CARS, then you won't want to miss this class!  Popcorn will be served. Grades K-3   Please bring a paint shirt!

"Little Dribblers" Basketball Camp

Students grade K-3, this camp is for you.  Work on basic skills such as dribbling, shooting, and passing.

American Red Cross Babysitters Class

Designed for youth ages 11-15 years old. The course provides a range of information on safety and safe play, basic care skills, first aid, and skills in decision making and leadership. Hands-on practice sessions, but not CPR certification.  Bring a sack lunch.

Easter Egg Coloring

It’s time again to color those eggs.  Join Chris and Audrey for a fun afternoon of egg decorating and snacks.  This activity is open to grades K-3rd.  Students will be walked over to the Golden Living  Ctr. 

 Don’t forget to return to Wabasso on Saturday for the Egg Hunt.  Watch for further details.

Super Science Club

Through a partnership with SMSU and a recent grant from MN 4-H we are able to offer your kids this awesome opportunity of exploring science through fun and exciting adventures, and to allow students of SMSU to receive classroom experience through this program.  Snack will be provided. Participants will build and design paper bridges, learn how string telephones work, and fly away with paper gliders.  Open to Grades 4-6th.

 Special Interest

Each country in the world has their own traditions, such as food, dance, education process, and other customs.  To have the opportunity to learn about a different culture is something amazing.  We cotinue to develope our knowledge process and realize that learning never stops.  So let’s go and learn different  things about BRAZIL, a beautiful and different country —   Simone Elisa Faleiro, visiting teacher

Brazillian Cooking

It’s Brazilian Night!  We are cooking up some traditional Brazilian foods with the help from our visiting teacher, Simone.  Brazilian Hot Dog, Brigadeiro, and a Sweet Grape Dessert  are on the menu.   Join us for a fun Brazilian evening.

Armchair Travels to Brazil

Travel to the beautiful country of Brazil without leaving the comfort of your chair.  Come and learn about  Brazil’s history and many points of interest.  Try some wonderful Brazilian treats to end the trip.  Everyone is welcome.

 Adult Dance

Join in the fun.   Simone, visiting teacher, will be leading several traditional dances of Southern Brazil, including “Carnival” dances.  Bring a partner enjoy the fun, fast paced music.

Let's Learn Portuguese

Have you ever wanted to learn another language?  In these sessions, we will be learning Portuguese.  Participants will work on writing, reading, and speaking  through a variety of activities such as music and  recipes.

Adult

 Defensive Driving

Participants age 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law.  First  time participants must complete the 8-hour course.  Repeat persons may take a 4-hour refresher course.

Adult Cards

Can’t remember the rules to some card games?  Too busy to be in a Card Club, but would like to play some cards?  Then this is the place to be!  Let us know which games interest you when you register.

 Walk the Halls

Beat the winter blues with an invigorating walk. The school is  open to adults to walk safely in the halls.  Call for further details.

 Bob Ross Painting Class

Put your Dreams on Canvas!  Youth and adults are encouraged to try this fun hobby.  Judith Hoff shares her passion, patience and knowledge with everyone who takes her classes.  All painting supplies furnished.  Lunch break will be provided; you may bring in a sack lunch or snacks.  Frames are available for purchase at class. 

Please bring a roll of paper towels and wet wipes to class.

 Old Log Theater

Incorruptible, by Michael Hollinger 

This fast-faced American comedy offers a gentle rib-poking look at how we humans gleefully twist our convictions to rationalize our bad behavior.  While outrageously funny, the play also offers a warm, comforting message about faith lost and regained.  A meal is included. 

 Wabasso RSVP Bone Builders

The osteoporosis exercise program that prevents and reverses osteoporosis, improves balance, enhances energy and well-being.  Bring your friends and help improve your future. 

 WOW - Women on Weights

Once again, Krista Zeug and Zeug’s Gym have teamed up to offer a weight lifting class for women at Zeug’s Gym.  Krista will lead us through a safe and proper weight lifting routine.  Whether you have never lifted before or just need a little more guidance in proper strength training this class is for you.  Strength training is the best way to prevent osteoporosis, maintain ADL’S, activities of daily living, help loose weight, and to feel great about yourself.

 Early Childhood Family Education

Terrific Toddlers (1-2 year olds)

This class will not separate.  Children are able to explore the classroom and a variety of activities with their parents and peers. 

Playful Preschoolers (3-4 year olds)

Parents and children together will enjoy a variety of activities and circle time with each other and peers.  This class will not separate.

Kindergarten Connection

Do you have a child entering kindergarten next fall?  This class is for you!  Enjoy a variety of learning activities together with your child and then separate to learn more about your child’s math, literacy, language, listening, and social skills and how to best prepare him for school.

Family Fun (0-5 year olds)

Wanting to find a time and place to get together with other parents and young children?  Families are welcome to come and enjoy a variety of activities and circle time with children of all ages.

Classes are located in the Early Childhood Room at school.  Please register for classes by January 21.  There is a $10.00 per family per session (fall, winter, and spring) registration fee for ECFE.  This will cover all ECFE classes and events for the session unless otherwise noted.  Sibling care is offered during evening classes, but you must register in advance.

I Love to Read Pajama Party

Help celebrate February as I Love to Read Month with our annual “Book Swap Bingo.”  Decorate your own special pillow case.  Play children’s bingo to win books.  Enjoy a few bedtime stories – all in your pajamas of course!  All children should bring two gently used books to swap.

 Becoming a Love and Logic Parent

Note: No additional registration fee if registered through ECFE

Would you like to raise respectful and responsible kids?  Would you like to feel more confident as a parent?  Would you like to have more fun parenting and feel more relaxed at the end of the day?  This parenting program is designed to give you practical skills that can be used immediately!  Books will be available.  Child care/activities will be available during this class, but you must register in advance for needed child care.
